Eco Friendly with Bamboo

In today’s world of fast travel and 24-hour electricity, the demand on our planet has magnified by many levels. We have evolved into a global community where the advent of newer technologies, industry, factories, manufacturing, shipping, transport etc. has led to pollution, overuse of our natural resources and usage and reliance on non renewable resources. The use of our planet’s resources has become a daily need and many of us cannot even spend a day without it. as a simplest example, do you know how much water is wasted in the making one pair of jeans? 1800 gallons! In the midst of this technological evolution, we need to preserve what we have got left and keeping our earth safe and worth living on. Many industries and enterprises are now switching to natural resources for their production. In fact, our honourable Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi has promised production of 100 GW of solar energy by 2022. Such steps are needed to wean us off non renewable sources of energy and keep our planet safe.

But all this is happening on a bigger stage. What can you and I do in our daily living to make a difference? Using environment friendly products does go a long way in saving our planet and preventing harmful chemicals from affecting nature. Which is why using natural, organic materials for yourself and eco-friendly materials for your home are the need of the hour. One of the common eco-friendly materials used for making multiple products is Bamboo. Known as “wise man’s timber, it is used for making not only flooring, kitchen utensils and curtains but also clothes, furniture, toothbrushes, pens, and even speakers.

Bamboo is a grass (yes, it is a grass!) that is as hard as concrete and has a strength to weight ratio similar to steel. At the same time, it is ductile (can bend without breaking) which is a quality utilised while making flooring- being ductile makes it easier on the knees compared to normal flooring! Since it is so fast growing, it requires lesser pesticides, water and area to grow and as it grows, it becomes stronger. It

is safer than plastic for the environment and uses lesser dyes and chemicals than plastic- making it a more nature friendly product. The ease of dyeing bamboo is also utilised in bamboo fabric. Fabric made from Bamboo is softer than cotton- similar to silk and can be worn all year round.

Utensils made from bamboo are easier to handle since they don’t break like glass or ceramic and are easily biodegradable. In addition to looking attractive, products made from bamboo are better for our environment. Yes, the cost may seem a little high to you but we are paying a much higher price for not using eco-friendly products!

Among the many things we can do to protect our environment, using bamboo products is one of the simplest. We are proud of Bamboo India for bringing cooler and chic products made of Bamboo for daily use. The toothbrushes made from bamboo and the speakers are very classy.

So let us pledge to keep our planet last longer and use eco friendly and organic products!
